“Oh God I pray that each word of this article be inspired by You”.
Mark 5:28 Because she thought, “If I just touch His clothes, I will be healed”.
The late Jimmy Keyton said to me as I was leaving for my first mission trip to Mexico:
“Horton, you are going to see and experience wonders of God that we just do not see here”. At the time, I had absolutely no idea what he was talking about. I was soon to find out!
I know people today who are just plain out too proud to get on their knees and pray. I find it uplifting to see a grown man on his knees lifting up prayer to our Father in heaven and, to be frank with you, the future of America would be much more promising if our children could see their fathers on their knees in prayer.
Mark tells us of a woman who did not have any books, newspapers, radios, or television to announce Christ and to share and explain His healing powers. She had only heard a rumor about Jesus, yet she acted on it.
This woman had been sick for twelve years and suffering with what was probably a bleeding cancer. On her face was written pain, weakness and worry. She had spent every cent she had and was at the point of desperation. We realize she had tried everything else and Jesus was her last resort, her last hope. She had gone to many physicians, but no one had helped as she grew steadily worse. It may be said to her glory that the first time she heard of Jesus, she came!
Matthew 9:21 points out she said within herself, “If I only touch His cloak, I will be healed.” She did not ask for Him to place His hands on her head, or come to her house, or even speak to her. As she made her way through the crowd, making no effort to gain His attention, she did touch His clothes, but notice where she touched - - “the hem of His garment” (Matt. 9:20) the very lowest part. What a lovely humility we see in her, yet we are too proud to get on our hands and knees to talk to Him. What an expression she had of complete faith. This woman believed there was healing even in the hem of His garment. Of course she was healed.
She was not in some beautiful church. She had no private conference with Christ. She was just one of the crowd. Note what Jesus said to her. “Daughter, thy faith made thee whole.” The Bible tells us that Jesus knew someone had touched Him. He felt the power go out of Him. There are those who feel there is no real power to be received from Christ.
In last month’s article I mentioned Joel (2:23-30) “And I will show wonders in heaven and earth”. I know what Jimmy Keyton meant. For some reason when I picture this lady with the blood issue, I see her as a little Mexican lady in the filth and poverty of the streets of Mexico and I am reminded of the Christian song: I Walked Today Where Jesus Walked, in fact, I can almost hear Virgil Lovett singing it.
Yes, All Things Work to the Good. There is a God in Heaven, There is a Crown waiting for Old Soldiers of the Cross, His Grace is Sufficient, and He can Still be Touched, and this just happens to be The Way I See It.
