As I See It
May 2009
There is something different about mothers today compared to mothers of yesterday. What a profound statement! Mothers of yesterday honored God in their lives and brought up their children in the right way. They trusted God that when their children were old they would not depart from their training. (Proverbs 22:6) Now, some mothers today seem to think that their children will turn out all right without any help, guidance nor training. You must put something in your child’s life if you expect to get something out of it. Mothers should set examples before their children. She should show them through her life how to live for the Lord.
Secondly, mothers must put discipline in the lives of their children. The mothers of today could all take a lesson from my mother. God knows she tried. If you allow a young colt to run wild and unbridled, he will be wild all of his life. A firm hand should be put on their lives, guiding them in the right direction. My mother was a strong believer in that “firm hand” should also be applied to certain parts of the anatomy. The undisciplined child of today is the criminal of tomorrow. The mother taking the line of least resistance in correcting her children is on the road to heartbreak and sorrow.
Finally, mothers must put love in their children’s lives. There is nothing any sadder in all the world than a child who feels he is not loved. This is one of many things that impress me about Mexican mothers. Their children are an extension of the love they receive from their mothers. Mexican mothers, in all their poverty, believe in the promises of God and accordingly put their best into their children’s lives and trust God for the results. I believe our mothers of today could take a lesson from my mother and their Mexican neighbors and that’s the way I see it.
