In last month’s publication (Vol. 22) As I See It, I mentioned that we as Christian men often mirror the activity of early morning deer in South Georgia.  We follow along with the crowd without consideration of the outcome. This example is not only indicative of Christian men but also of Christian women!

As Jesus journeyed from place to place, there were small groups of women following Him and ministering to Him and His disciples.  When He came down to die on the cross, they were standing by.  As He rises from the dead we see them again.  It is true that women were the last at the cross and the first at the tomb.  When Jesus came into the world, women were nothing more than slaves.  He lifted them to a level of human beings. So today, where Jesus is not known, you will find that women are treated a lot like cattle.  Look at our own country. We see many women following Jesus faithfully and enjoying all of the blessings He secured for them.

On the other hand, many women are following some practices heretofore indulged in by men.  I can remember when it was considered unladylike to smoke cigarettes. The cigarette manufacturers targeted women with a successful ad campaign. On billboards we saw advertisements where women had their “own cigarette”.  This was only the beginning. Today, millions of women smoke.  Once women were not allowed in saloons and only a “fallen woman” drank whiskey.  Now, today’s women smoke and drink and do many other questionable things, which men do. The more they become like men the less attractive they become.  Now it is not a question of whether you can be a Christian and do these things --- The question is, how good a Christian do you want to be?

What are the results of this trend?  Many women do not have the Christian influence they used to have.  Even in this modern culture, women can be fine Christians without, like a deer, following the crowd.  Do not get too excited men.  If it were not for the women of today’s church, I honestly believe that we would have to close seventy-five percent of all church doors of all faiths!  It is women, not men who are doing the work of the church today.

May we as Christian men and women ponder the great announcement of all time.  “Why seek ye the living among the dead?” And That Is Exactly The Way I See It.
